Giving Back: Give Week at SNU

Giving Back: Give Week at SNU

Southern Nazarene University’s annual Give Week took place this past week, offering students a variety of events and opportunities to give back to the campus and surrounding community.

Give Week began Monday with Coffee and Community, an event where students could spend intentional time talking about Bible stories and discussing questions together. Students were also treated to decaffeinated coffee and pastries.

On Wednesday, students participated in Snack Packs, an event where they assembled bags of snacks to distribute to the community. Thursday brought the week’s main event, Southern Nazarene Live (SNL).

Give Week wrapped up Friday with two more events. First, students gathered in the coffee shop for Helping Hands, where they wrote letters to their favorite professors and had the opportunity to deliver them personally. Later that evening, students gathered in Bud Robinson for a worship night, providing a meaningful conclusion to a week centered on giving back.

With several events throughout the week, students had different opportunities to participate. To find out which activities stood out the most, we asked students to share their favorite Give Week experiences.

Landon Brant, SNU Esports player, enjoyed Coffee and Community.

“I thought Coffee and Community was an amazing event. I really enjoyed the intentionality behind it, along with the coffee of course,” he explained. “I had some really good conversations while I was there, and we even continued the conversation outside of the event. I believe that this event was designed to encourage that, and it did a great job.”

Brant also highlighted Snack Packs, explained why he appreciated the event.

“I enjoy how simple, yet effective it is. I like that it is a chapel credit as well because it feels like you are getting a reward for helping out,” he said.

David Allen, computer science and finance major, shared his appreciation for Helping Hands.

“I liked the Helping Hands event. I thought it was a really good idea and I enjoyed writing to my professor,” he commented. “I also liked that you had to go give the card to the professor yourself. It definitely gave more of an intentional feel.

Give Week provided students with opportunities to serve others, build relationships, and show appreciation for the people around them. Through simple acts of kindness, students were reminded that giving back can strengthen the SNU community throughout the year. What an incredible job by those who planned it, and we know next year will be even better!
