The Faces Behind SNEWS

The Faces Behind SNEWS

In the minutes leading up to chapel worship, SNEWS plays across the sanctuary screens. SNEWS is a short video series where SNU students highlight fun aspects of campus life and announce upcoming events. It helps transition students from classroom mode to chapel by creating moments to recenter and laugh together before worship begins.

SNEWS features four co-hosts from different student leadership positions across campus, each with a unique host style: Creative Lead Tiana “T” Frantz, Senate Chair Kaseton “Kase” Farris, and Resident Advisors Brady Wilson and Liam Gustin, who is known for his signature bird whistle.

Frantz, a senior biology-chemistry major, edits and plans all the content. Her goal is to highlight campus happenings from SALT events and athletic games to interviewing random students across the school.

She described the mission of SNEWS as “highlighting student involvement, student engagement, and students in general. One of Frantz’s favorite parts of SNEWS is hearing fellow students’ reactions while the videos play before chapel. She enjoys giving students a break from classroom stress before they step into worship. Her favorite part of creating SNEWS, however, is getting to know students she may not have met otherwise. “I really love getting to interview students I have never met before and editing to make the show funny,” Frantz exclaimed.

Farris, a senior finance major, expressed, “SNEWS is an opportunity to highlight upcoming things on campus and people who are not seen often and give them a reason to want to be at events during chapel.” Farris uses comedy to encourage more students to participate in the show. His favorite part is surprising people with random questions and challenges, then building connections that carry throughout the school year.

Both Frantz and Farris agree that their favorite episode was filmed at the Oklahoma State Fair in the fall of 2025. Farris encouraged students not to be afraid to interact with the hosts or ask them how to get more involved in campus life.

In the fall of 2025, SNEWS underwent a major revamp, switching from a traditional news desk format to a more interactive and entertaining model. SNEWS incorporates pop culture and viral references to engage viewers. SNEWS also features specialized segments, such as “Bro Average,” a spoof of Dude Perfect’s Overtime series. The segment aired during Spiritual Deepening Week and highlighted resident advisors.

The hosts use the final portion of the video to share announcements with the student body. They promote SALT, clubs, athletics, and fine arts events, along with various announcements submitted through email. This year, members of SALT’s student engagement team announced how students can support arts and athletic events.

From its comedy and campus interviews to its event announcements, SNEWS has become a familiar part of the minutes before chapel. Behind every video are students who are using creativity, humor and their own personalities to help bring the SNU community together.
