From Sharing the Same DNA to Being College Roommates: The SNU Twin Experience

Across the SNU campus, there are a few sets of identical twins. The Baugher and [Hoffpauir] twins embrace how they share the same looks, DNA, and upbringing, and now similar college experiences.

Senior identical twins Layke and Hunter Baugher can often be found together in the cafeteria or on the rugby field. After graduating from high school, the Baughers began working as diesel mechanics. Soon after, they decided they wanted to do something different. This led to them buying train tickets to Maine, where they hiked 2,000 miles on the Appalachian Trail. During the hike, both developed relationships with Christ and decided they wanted to attend college. Before coming to SNU, they attended community college in their hometown of Kansas City, where they enjoyed being classmates and doing homework together.

Both wanted to come to SNU to join the rugby program. At SNU, Hunter is majoring in mathematics, and Layke is majoring in finance. The pair spend time together, both playing for the SNU men’s rugby team and as roommates. [Since being] at SNU, the two have grown closer to God and learned to stick to the basics instead of overcomplicating life. Hunter conveyed how he often goes on walks to be with God.

Layke stated, “I think we have more similarities than differences.” They noted their main differences, explaining that Layke is into exercising and is more of a risk taker, while Hunter enjoys mechanics and academics more. Both have similar career goals of working for themselves. Layke shared his favorite part of being a twin is “I wake up every morning knowing that someone has my back.” The easiest way to tell them apart is that Layke has a more square face.

Identical twins Madeline Francis and Macey Hoffpauir graduated from SNU in 2023. Francis majored in graphic design and Hoffpauir majored in mass communication. Both minored in business. They were highly involved in campus life. Both interned for SNU Creative, where Hoffpauir did photography and Francis did graphic design. Hoffpauir sang for chapels and served on Remedy for two summers. Francis was a member of the creative team for SALT and played keys for the chapel band. They were roommates for all four years of college. One of their favorite memories is being on the 2022 Homecoming Court together.

Hoffpauir expressed, “We grew up side by side. At college we got the chance to do our own things, but were a part of a lot of the same things. It was good to have a best friend to come to college with since we moved so far away from home.”

The alumni still live in the OKC area. Francis currently works as the marketing and communications manager for Water4, a nonprofit that works to provide water systems in Africa. She is married to SNU alumnus Dustyn Francis, whom she met at Winter Retreat. At SNU, Hoffpauir found a passion for singing and leading worship. She currently serves as the worship administrator at Faith Church in OKC. She also owns her own freelance photography business. Being both in the creative field, the two are able to bounce ideas off each other. Hoffpauir shared, “We loved our experience at SNU and developing our passions there.” The way to tell them apart is that Francis is taller than her twin sister.

For the Baughers and Hoffpauir, being a twin provides a built-in best friend from childhood to college.
